Taking power from Social Media trolls from an empowered position
This ASCP Book Club meeting will focus on Chapter 31 of Presumed Incompetent (2nd Edition) by Dr. Stacy Patton. This reading examines how to negotiate social media posts that focus on attacking faculty of color or those doing work with marginalized populations. While many professors and reporters would rather avoid confrontation, Dr. Patton believes that clapping back is an act of self- care and a way to build a buffer between herself and the hate from racist and sexist trolls who want to silence Women of Color and keep them living in fear or chronically on the defensive.
ASCP Working Group Professional Development
The ASCP Working Group prioritizes professional development as a key element of graduate training. Through the centering of social justice frameworks, these sessions strengthen our members capacity to engage in research, teaching and service addressing pressing social needs across diverse populations.
This virtual gathering will take place Tuesday March 9 from 10:00 to 11:00am. Participation information will be sent via email to all members of the ASCP Working Group. Please contact Dr. Dionne Stephens to receive event updates or webinar login information (see below).
